Vacuum Excavation Case Study: Airport Expansion

In 2020, the CSE team were asked to be part of an ongoing Airport Expansion project to provide a safer solution. Our operators were given the job of locating existing active drain pipes, but as they weren’t noted on the area map, it made the task at hand a little more difficult than it needed to be.

With the active pipes being in close proximity to the Airport Control Tower, the job became very sensitive with a number of unrecorded services and despite the development being relatively modern, the risk of a strike had to be controlled perfectly as this could have had huge consequences to the entire airport.

Our trained operators completed the job within a single day and as it was their first time working with the airport, we were delighted to hear that the customer was highly impressed after seeing Vacuum Excavation in action.

Vacuum Excavation offers a faster, more cost-effective solution than manual hand digging. A standard Vacuum Excavation can remove 2m3 of spoil per hour, while an inbuilt skip can hold up to 10m3 before it needs to be emptied. In short, one Suction Excavation vehicle will complete a job in the fraction of time in which it would take a team of labourers or a digger.

Another beneficial aspect of Vacuum Excavation is that it is a significant time saver.
