Vacuum Excavation Case Study: Gas Leak

On a recent job, our Vacuum Excavator proved to be a safety essential in order to locate gas services. There were several high voltage electric cables and telecommunication lines near the gas main which meant that a safe excavation solution was promptly required.

The Vacuum Excavator’s remote controlled suction arm ensured that the ground was cleared in order to expose the gas main, without providing any risk to striking nearby services. By using Vacuum Excavator as a safety method, eliminated the need for any manual or mechanical digging which reduced the likelihood of buried services being damaged or struck.

Due to the fast Vacuum Excavation suction power, the ground was clearly relatively quickly which means the gas main was repaired and put back into action without causing too much inconvenience to the local residents.

This particular project was completed by one of our operators and is a fantastic example of how Vacuum Excavation can be used to ensure that there is on-site safety at all times, especially around buried utilities.

Vacuum Excavation offers a faster, more cost-effective solution than manual hand digging. A standard Vacuum Excavation can remove 2m3of spoil per hour, while an inbuilt skip can hold up to 10m3 before it needs to be emptied. In short, one Vacuum Excavation vehicle will complete a job in the fraction of time in which it would take a team of labourers or a digger.

Another beneficial aspect of Vacuum Excavation is that it is a significant time saver.
