How Vacuum Excavation Works Through The Night

For large infrastructure jobs, it is often difficult to access busy sites and roads when maintenance is required and so, essential repairs and upgrades tend to be scheduled for overnight construction work and if that is the case, the CSE team are always on hand to support.

Planning

The CSE team work with an array of contractors across the country in order to safely and quickly excavate underground cables. The key to being able to achieve these essentials repair and maintenance jobs on time is through planning:

  • Understand your construction site, identify any potential hazards including underground cables.
  • Clearly and precisely mark the underground cables on the ground.
  • Use a ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey where necessary to ensure all cables are located, prior to excavation.
  • Buried assets ought to be exposed by using Vacuum Excavation to prevent any potential cable strikes.

Delivering

Overnight jobs often mean that the road or rail bridges need to be closed and so, it is vital that the work is completed on-time and that the infrastructure is up and running by the next morning.

Any project delays often mean that the roads won’t be opened again on time which will have a knock-on effect on commuters, transport companies as well as other road users. More often than not, the financial penalty will be built into contracts in order to prevent delays and ensure that access is returned on time.

Timing

With the use of the Vacuum Excavator’s strong suction boom, this ensures that the ground is cleared safely and quickly. The suction pulls away at the ground at a fast pace and with the underground cables already being marked out, work can be completed within a matter of hours.

Vacuum Excavation offers a faster, more cost-effective solution than manual hand digging. A standard Vacuum Excavation can remove 2m3of spoil per hour, while an inbuilt skip can hold up to 10m3 before it needs to be emptied. In short, one Vacuum Excavation vehicle will complete a job in the fraction of time in which it would take a team of labourers or a digger.

Another beneficial aspect of Vacuum Excavation is that it is a significant time saver.
